DESCRIPTION:
EPW - C.H. Meylan, Brassus, top-grade tandem-winding minute repeater grande sonnerie clockwatch, 52mm, heavy 18K gold OF original case with initials on rear, Jurgensen-style lips, gold cuvette, under bezel with levers for "Silent - Strike" and "Hours & Quarters - Hours & Half Hours," white enamel DS dial, SW-SS, fully capped lever escapement, fully jeweled repeat train and hammers, fausses-cĂ´tes pattern nickel damascene, s#5351 with matching serial number within case. Gross weight of assembled watch 87.1 dwt (135.4 g). Push button on crown engages minute repeater on demand. The lever of this example (under the bezel's 2 o'clock position) selects for the occurrence of grande sonnerie striking each 15-minutes or each 30-minutes. The lever at 11 o'clock is used to select chime or silence. We strongly suspect that the ebauche of this piece was likely executed by Louis Audemars, both due to the similarity of its tandem winding system to Audemars products and also due to the overall layout and design similarities to other known Audemars products. Overall, a spectacular and rare piece for the collector; listening to the chime of a clockwatch every 15 minutes is one of the most charming sounds to live and work around.
